Here is a quick round-up of the global VR/AR investments announced in the month of April 2017.

  • Purdue University receives $800,000 USD grant to train manufacturers in VR.
  • Boeing has announced to launch a venture capital arm, called HorizonX. The new division will invest in two startups including Upskill, a Washington DC based startup that builds enterprise software for industrial augmented reality (AR) devices.
  • AMD has acquired all the intellectual property (IP) and the key engineering team from a company called Nitero. The company builds technologies to create wireless VR and AR headsets.
  • Pasadena-based Virtualitics, announced to raise $4.4 million in a Series A funding round.
  • Seattle-based virtual reality startup Pluto VR has raised $13.9 million in a Series A funding round.
  • New York-based 3D capture startup GeoCV, raised $1.8 million in seed investment from Runa Capital, Emery Capital, and several New York angel investors.
  • Chinese internet firm Baidu Inc. has announced that it has acquired a visual perception technology company called, xPerception Technology. Financial details were not disclosed.
  • Mixed reality headset company Avegant, has raised $13.7 million USD in a new round of funding.
  • After four years of bootstrapped business, Bangalore-based augmented reality startup Whodat, has raised $600,000 (Rs 3.9 crore) in its seed round.
  • Immersive web developer company Vizor, has raised $2.3 million in a seed funding round led by The Venture Reality Fund (The VR Fund) and co-led by Inventure.
  • China-based VR software and headset maker Shadow Creator raises $14M Series A led by Fortune Capital.
  • HP moves into VR and AR with investment in Venture Reality Fund.
