18 amazing virtual reality games and experiences from Gamescom 2016

Europe’s biggest gaming convention Gamescom is over but the excitement keeps going on… This year’s show ran from 17–21 August in Cologne, Germany and hosted several hundred thousand fans from all around the world. Here is what gamers shared and liked the most from the event floor.

1. Serious Sam VR

Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope is a game series produced by the Croatian gaming company Croteam. The game follows the adventures of Samuel “Serious” Stone, fighting against the overlord Mental who wants to destroy our world.

And this is a “Subpac M2”, a wearable tactile audio system that is used when playing the Serious Sam game. It is a subwoofer that you can strap to your back. With this beast, you’ll feel like you’re right inside the action.

2. Holodance

A collaborative multiplayer Virtual Reality music game for HTC Vive. It lets you play with the music while dancing with dragons. Isn’t it exciting?

And looks like the audience enjoyed it…

3. Funhouse

The VR Funhouse is developed by Nvidia featuring seven different carnival games, and challenges. Upon entering VR Funhouse, players are welcomed by lights, sounds and colors that mimic a midway carnival. Funhouse can be downloaded from Steam for free.

4. Eagle Flight VR

As you can guess from the name Eagle Flight is a game that lets users soar freely in the sky as an eagle. Players can move their heads and dogfight with avian enemies.

5. Batman Arkham VR

Who doesn’t love Batman? Now with Playstation VR players can immerse themselves into Gotham and experience what it is like to see the world behind Batman’s mask.

6. #SkiJump

SkiJump is a multiplayer game where you can ski and jump over the slopes like a unicorn.

7. #SelfieTennis

SelfieTennis is a highly addictive game that lets you play tennis with “yourself”. You throw a ball over the net, then you pass to the other side and return that service. Plus, you can even take a virtual selfie.

8. SanLab

SanLab Simulation is not a game. In fact it is a real time operator simulator that is used to train operators in a risk-free and quality environment and the Engadget editor Aaron Souppouris seems to enjoy it very much.

9. Icaros

Another VR simulator. But this time you can fly. Icaros is a hardware and software system to fly through virtual worlds, play games or exercise.

10. Holo Cafe

Holo Cafe is a VR arcade from Germany where people can play multiplayer games in a social and engaging way.

Holo Cafe sounds fun, but why are these people so serious?

11. Gravity VR

Avatar VR is a wireless controller designed to provide a realistic sense of touch in virtual reality.

12. Parachute Simulator

Do you want to experiment a parachute? Now there is a simulator for that.

13. Project Arena

Full body VR experience where two players can experience battle each other by throwing light disks. Sounds like a Tron movie huh? Isn’t that cool?

14. Samsung Gear VR roller coaster

Who said VR is something you can experience only by yourself? This giant roller coaster is a great chance to share the VR excitement with others.

15. Star Trek Bridge Simulator

Another multiplayer VR experience… This time your mission is to cruise USS Enterprise with 4 players.

16. 3D Rudder

A feet based motion controller for virtual reality. That is so sci-fi!

17. Rogue One: X-wing VR Mission

During the Gamescom 2016 Electronic Arts announced that Rogue One: X-wing VR Mission is coming to Star Wars Battlefront this fall. It will be available for free to all owners of Star Wars Battlefront and a PlayStation VR headset. Well… What could we ask for more?

18. Robinson: The Journey & The Climb

German game developer Crytek introduced two of their upcoming projects Robinson: The Journey (for PSVR) and The Climb (for Oculus Rift w/ Oculus Touch)
