Warner Bros. patents reveal new movie watching experience in mixed reality
Film studio Warner Bros. is awarded with two new patents that let viewers to be a part of the movie scene by using virtual, augmented or mixed reality headsets.
Spotted first by Patently Apple, the new patent fillings list HoloLens and other types of headsets, powered by Intel or ARM processors, to be compatible with Warner Bros.’ future movie system.
According to the patents, multiple immersive headsets may be worn by moviegoers or home theater users. Each of the users can share a contemporaneous immersive video experience that places them inside a virtual reality scene.
The patent also suggests, it would be desirable to develop new technologies in order to overcome the limitations of traditional techniques for enhancing new immersive technologies in movie production.

For example, a cinematic data distribution server communicates with multiple immersive output devices each configured for providing immersive output (e.g., a virtual reality output) based on a data signal.”

Warner Bros. Entertainment’s patent application was filed back in Q4 2016 and published on April 13 by the U.S. Patent Office.
